Bri has been diagnosed with having a small deformity called Tracheomalacia. For those of you that are confused just like I was, here is what it actually means. Tracheomalacia is an abnormal collapse of the tracheal walls. It is known as the softening of the cartilage which could be due from immaturity of the trachea. Tracheomalacia
is usually benign, with symptoms due to airway obstruction. As such,
this condition is often mistaken for chronic asthma or prolonged bronchiolitis. My daughter has had this intense breathing or snore-like sound from about three weeks of age. At first, we mistook the sound for snoring because we noticed it while she was sleep. But when she started making that sound while fully awake, we knew it was a issue. Her primary physician said it was a case of Tracheomalacia and gave us a referral. Wednesday, we went to the specialist and confirmed the diagnosis. In fact, she has Larynx Tracheomalacia and its very mild according to the doctor. He said the trachea should develop and become mature somewhere between 6-12months and sometimes it could take longer. With that being said...I'm just relieved that she's okay and it's nothing serious.
