Welcome Angel

We shall call her Brielle Oriah-Renee Collymore…
I went to the hospital October 2nd expecting to get induced and little did I know, the universe had other plans. I was supposed to get a Cervidil. This is a type of induction which is when they stick something up your vagina and  a little string hangs out(similar to a tampon string). Then when suitable, they would pull the string out and that induces labor. The nurse foresaw a problem with the baby responsiveness. Therefore, she didn't induce me right away. She waited on the doctor on come in. The female doctor(Dr. Fahey) finally arrived and decided to put me on Pitocin aka 'drips'. I called it the drips cause its something that is given through my iv and it increases contractions. Naturally when I start having contractions I am supposed to start dilating, that didn't happen. The next day, my birthday, another nurse came and held up the process. She came up with the theory that she needed an ultrasound. She wasn't sure if the baby head was down. I say that she held up the process because asking for the ultrasound was unnecessary. I had an ultrasound at 39wks to determine the size and position of the baby. Okay, back to the story…the nurse finally got the call from the doctor on call(Dr. Pouliot), and he agreed that I didn't need the ultrasound and instructed to put me back to the 'drips'. Hours passed, and I noticed the chances of me having my daughter on my birthday was slowly dwindling. I spoke to the medical assistant from the doctor's office and talked about the possibility of having a cesarean. I wagered to have cesarean only if I could get it done that day. The doctor came in and he said he wouldn't do the c-section based soley on my preference of having the baby on my birthday. I was extremely depressed and sad. However, I did begin to progress in my dilation…I went from 3 to 5 centimeters. Dr. Pouliot came in and said that I was coming along just fine. He pulled up a chair, checked me, and broke my water(Amniotomy). And the contractions began! It felt like HELL. The pain was coming very often and although I was trying to go natural, I couldn't do it anymore. I caved and had to get the epidural! Finally, we welcomed our baby girl into the world at 4:29am. She was the perfect alien-like specimen I have ever seen(For some strange reason, I always think newborns resemble aliens). And so my journey of motherhood began...
